You can start the walk from the car park above or whinatter visitor centre, we have done both walks, but find this route quieter.

  • You follow the track from the back of the car park and past the buildings/farm, then follow the  main forestry road into the Aiken Beck Valley

  • The path is easy to follow approx. one mile from the car park a  post indicates the route

  • Straight ahead at a crossroads, follow this for another 1 mile

  • Another marker post  starts the ascent through the forestry section to the summit, you spot the summit in front of you, where the path rises to the summit where a small stone area with a pole marks the summit.

  • When stood on the summit you will see two paths, one heading to Barf which is a good option if you have time, the path drops and approx. one mile to Barf. or take the path in the opposite direction to Broom fell, where a large Trig and shelter sits, the path is boggy in some sections but you follow the well trodden grass path to the summit.

  • The path down leaves from the summit steeply to the bottom path,.
