MODERATE/HARD WALKING DEPENDING EXPERIENCE

The pretty village of Gunnerside sits just on the northern edge of the Dales, this trail, heading up into the side valley of Gunnerside Gill, explores the area’s lead mining history,

Look out for the information boards explaining each ruins along the valley.

🥾There is a signpost at the start near the Kings head pub for Gunnerside Gill.

In some places the path runs close to the stream which is a good place to stop and paddle on a nice day.

🥾You follow the river into the valley which rises into the old lead mine works, this was the site of the old gang level ore works, on the opposite bank you will see some more ruins, we did manage to get across the river to have a look via some large rocks but I can imagine if in full force it would be difficult..

🥾The path continues on the same side of the valley , after this area of remains the path becomes grassy as it rises away from the river until you reach a t junction with a large cairn and pass more ruins.

🥾We actually ran out of time to do the full circular so we returned the same way on a higher path from this junction but to complete the circular you follow the path ahead to the left

🥾You eventually come to a slab bridge to cross over and head up the hill until you reach a junction where you turn left and follow the high level track back along the opposite side of the river.
