MODERATE WALKING

One of the most beautiful walks in the Swaledale area, which gives a mix of valley and high level walking.

You will see various old ruins along the walk which shows how rich in mining the area was, we have done this walk about 4 times and still love going.

Leave the village with the farm behind you and head down the path in front of you towards kidson force, great place to stop for photos or a picnic.

Pass kidson force and turn right along the path into the valley, with amazing views continuously along this path.

You first pass a old barn on you right hand side,

You will then come to a large building on your left which was Crackpot hall, great to explore and go inside where you can see some of the old equipment.

Further along the path you start to drop down towards Swinner gill, you can head into the gill to explore more ruins but take care as the path is not defined and narrow in places with a sheer drop edge.

At the bottom cross the stream and continue along the path to Muker.

Another bridge in front is what you will cross to return back along the other side of the river to return to Keld.

You can stop off in Muker for refreshments which is a little futher that the bridge.

The return path is mainly grass farmland, after the bridge you first go through  a lovely meadow field in full bloom in the summer.

You then  just follow the river on your right and you cant go wrong as the path follows the river back to Keld.
